James is a shareholder in the firm’s Litigation and Labor and Employment groups. His practice focuses on representing individual and corporate clients in cases involving employment issues, trade secret misappropriation and unfair business practices claims; shareholder disputes, breach of contracts and leases and stock fraud. James also counsels and represents charter schools.
Before joining the firm, James practiced with a small firm in Nevada where his practice concentrated on products liability, aviation law, asbestos litigation, premises liability and legal and medical malpractice defense. In October 2000, he obtained a defense verdict in his first jury trial on behalf of a major U.S. tire manufacturer. James has also second-chaired five jury trials in state and federal courts, including the successful defense of two wrongful death actions. In the summer of 2001, he assisted with the prosecution of an abuse of process action that resulted in a jury verdict in his client’s favor of more than $1.7 million, including punitive damages.
James received his J.D. with great distinction from McGeorge School of Law in 1997 where he served as the Chief Comment Editor of the Pacific Law Journal. He was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Real Property and published his comment, “Silencing the Minority: Permitting Non-Unanimous Jury Verdicts in Criminal Trials,” in 1996.
Prior to law school, James made two trips to the Ukraine where he taught English, including a four-month position at the Institute of National Economy in Ternopil.
In his spare time, James enjoys running, playing soccer and cooking.
